The scarlet berry is edible but almost tasteless, and remains on the plant all winter. Medicine: In their final weeks of pregnancy Indian women drank a tea from the leaves to ease childbirth. Nursing mothers made a lotion from the leaves to relieve breast soreness. Note: Also called Squaw Vine or Squaw Berry.
