The Native American name of this plant means 'it breaks into small pieces, because the leather-like evergreen leaves were used in medicine to dissolve kidney stones. Known for its strengthening properties and used in medicines for diseases of the eye. An infusion was made with water and applied to heal blisters. Note: Also called Prince's Pine.
